Our History

Our founder, Jaime, began importing from East Africa in 1997. On one of his trips to Tanzania, he bought some art pieces and sold them in his store in New York City. Subsequent trips to Africa were made, and a love for African products was born. Jaime was amazed by the beauty and elegance of African art and amazing benefits of using African Shea Butter.

At the same time, many of the people who produced the art were extremely poor. Therefore, he decided to import African art in the US and distribute to various retailers. From there a foundation of Back to Africa Imports was born.

That great love and passion for African products was transferred to the next generation. Today our catalogue is 466 products: shea butter, African black soap, perfume body oils, hair care, and the jars, bottles and labels for packing your own.

Every price on the site is the wholesale price, shown without an account. Bulk shea butter is sold from 5 LBS to 400 LBS, and packaged lines by the dozen and the case.
